چکیده

In this paper, we present a method for the analysis and synthesis of faces that combines image-based rendering with geometry-based warping. In contrast to conventional model-based coding systems that usually rely on textured 3-D triangle mesh models for the representation of human heads, we additionally incorporate a large number of past images in order to interpolate new views. The use of real camera frames for facial synthesis leads to very natural looking results. However, the large number of variations in the face cannot all be covered by past frames. Therefore, we use image-based interpolation only to represent head turning, which usually shows most variations due to uncovered areas. The remaining motion is modeled by 3-D geometrybased warping. Similarly, the tracking of facial expression and motion has to be adapted to the combined modeland image-based approach. Experiments illustrate the applicability of the algorithms for the application of virtual conferencing.

Filtered Blending and Floating Textures: Ghosting-free Projective Texturing with Multiple Images

Whenever approximate 3D geometry is projectively texture-mapped from different directions simultaneously, annoyingly visible aliasing artifacts are the result. To prevent such ghosting in projective texturing and image-based rendering, we propose two different GPU-based rendering strategies: filtered blending and floating textures. Either approach is able to cope with imprecise 3D geometry as w...

Filtered Blending: A new, minimal Reconstruction Filter for Ghosting-Free Projective Texturing with Multiple Images

Whenever approximate 3D geometry is projectively texture-mapped from different directions simultaneously, annoyingly visible aliasing artifacts are the result. To prevent such ghosting in projective texturing and image-based rendering, we propose a new GPU-based rendering strategy and a new, viewdependent definition of ghosting. The algorithm is applicable to any kind of image-based rendering m...

A Review of Image-based Rendering Techniques

In this paper, we survey the techniques for image-based rendering. Unlike traditional 3D computer graphics in which 3D geometry of the scene is known, image-based rendering techniques render novel views directly from input images. Previous image-based rendering techniques can be classified into three categories according to how much geometric information is used: rendering without geometry, ren...

Three-dimensional range data compression using computer graphics rendering pipeline.

This paper presents the idea of naturally encoding three-dimensional (3D) range data into regular two-dimensional (2D) images utilizing computer graphics rendering pipeline. The computer graphics pipeline provides a means to sample 3D geometry data into regular 2D images, and also to retrieve the depth information for each sampled pixel. The depth information for each pixel is further encoded i...

Geometry-assisted image-based rendering for facial analysis and synthesis

In this paper, we present an image-based method for the tracking and rendering of faces. We use the algorithm in an immersive video conferencing system where multiple participants are placed in a common virtual room. This requires viewpoint modification of dynamic objects. Since hair and uncovered areas are difficult to model by pure 3-D geometry-based warping, we add image-based rendering tech...
